Bringing the Year to a Close

As we draw close to the end of the calendar year, we naturally become introspective and reflect on the past year. Here are the four big questions to consider.

As we approach the end of the calendar year, it’s natural to get into an introspective and retrospective state of being. For some people, this is also the time to set their New Year’s resolutions, based on this reflection. In Human Design, following the energies of the Sun transits, we move through four stages through the end of the calendar year, before beginning a new cycle on January 21/22, 2024. This is what we call the Rave New Year.

What is Rave new Year?

In our genetic code, we have 64 codons, including Start and Stop codons that signal protein synthesis. Unsurprisingly, we have only one Start codon (and three Stop codons). The Start codon is methionine, which corresponds with the 41st Hexagram in the I’Ching and 41st Gate in Human Design. This Gate is also the beginning of the Human Experiential Way. With the Start codon corresponding to Gate 41, in Human Design, we celebrate the New Year when the Sun transits this Gate.

Before then, there are four stages, four Sun transits, that help us reflect on whether we discovered meaning for ourselves, understanding who are our allies, seeing what we have learned, and getting ready to let go of the old. These are the four big questions to reflect on, with the Sun transits. Depending on how they impact our Design, some channels and energy centres may be defined and activated for us. Generally this is the same each year, making it an interesting reflection process. However, there can be many different cosmic movements that bring different themes in. For instance, when the Sun transits Gate 54 (Ambition) this year, we have the South Node in Gate 32. Last year, the South Node was in Gate 44, another Splenic Gate. Gates 32 and 54 together form the Channel of Transformation. So we may look more at what happened on the material plane this year, as the energy is there collectively or it may appear more important.

Four Stages of Closing

Before the Sun transits Gate 41, it transits Gate 38 The Fighter, Gate 54 Ambition, Gate 61 Mystery, and Gate 60 Acceptance.

The transits are:

  • December 31, 2023 (11:19AM UTC)
  • January 5, 2024 (11:46PM UTC)
  • January 11, 2024 (12:12PM UTC)
  • January 17, 2024 (00:49AM UTC)

Read more about Stages 1 & 2 and Stages 3 & 4.

Note these transits and observe the fuel, impulse, and pressures you may experience.

Wrapping Up the Old Year

Part 1

Leading Up the New Year

Part 2

Every year, with the Sun in Gate 41 and Earth in Gate 31, we start the Rave New Year on the Cross of the Unexpected. We may have fantasies, dreams, and ideas about each new moment, each new year, and each new cycle. A lesson humans are learning is to also let go of our expectations, which are coloured by history, culture, blood, and God. What about the Fates?

Gate 41is Decrease, the Gate of Contraction. Isn’t it interesting that the start of the Rave year is with “the limitation of resources that maximizes development of potential”?

From the translation of the I’Ching by Brian Browne Walker, “the hexagram Sun issues a call to sacrifice negative feelings, accept the powerlessness of the ego against the currents of life, and return to contemplation of the principles of the Sage. In stillness and meditation, we enrich the higher parts of ourselves and thus bring an end of the time of decrease.”

Human Design is a system to guide us in making decisions as our true authentic self, moving from our own personal unique authority. As nine-centred beings, we come into this life with the potential to live possibilities. First we accept our limitation as this bioenergetic being, this vehicle, and the geometry of our trajectory. This is how we come to transcend the characteristics and live the whole that is greater than the sum of the parts.

Gate 41 is my Personality North Node and I see the energy of this Gate. (Personality Nodes is our perspective, our view). I also have Power View so it’s been interesting to witness this contraction and how some people get lost in it, believing that the limitation of resources is an insurmountable barrier while others reach clarity on their direction in spite of it and because of it.
