SuperBrain Yoga is a simple exercise that is being taught to kids with learning challenges.
This one exercise can also benefit anyone wanting to improve memory and psychological stability.
Just a few minutes, that’s all it takes. You can do it once a day or more. It is up to you.
SuperBrain Yoga was introduced as a fitness hack for Brain Week (see video below) and has made news on CBS. According to this news report, Debbie Pommer-Siegal, a yoga instructor and teacher in Malibu, has taught this to her class of kids with learning challenges and has seen improvements such as responsiveness in one child who previously did nothing but stand. She has also noticed differences in her own life, such as not forgetting her keys.
Yale Neurologist Dr Eugenius Ang, Jr has done extensive research on Superbrain Yoga. He shares that this exercise stimulates neural pathways in the brain through the activation of acupuncture points on the ear lobe. In this exercise both sides of the brain are activated. He further says that EEG scans show that the two hemispheres are synchronized after doing this exercise 15 minutes.
Raina Koterba of the Northern New Jersey The Center for Pranic Healing USA works with disabled and autistic kids. SuperBrain Yoga was taught to the kids as well as their parents and therapists, with promising feedback. She shares several case studies of kids with autism, ADD, ADHD, and PDD, who became more calm and focused as a result of doing SuperBrain Yoga. She has said that the improvements seen in one year surpass those in the four years she has worked with them.
Introduced by Master Choa Kok Sui through his book SuperBrain Yoga, this practice is not new. The correspondences of the points in the ears to different parts of the body have been known in traditions such as Acupuncture/TCM for many, many years. In the ear, you can find the entire body.
For this exercise, the practitioner is activating the acupressure points for the brain, eyes, forehead, mouth, ovary, parotid, temple, and testes located in the ear, as well as those for the pineal and pituitary glands in the thumb pads.¹
Part of the reason this exercise helps is that a lot of our energy is stuck in the lower parts of our body, according to Master Choa, and if we can bring this energy up, well-being can be enhanced.
How to Do SuperBrain Yoga
- Hold your right earlobe with your left hand and your left earlobe with your right hand, crossing your arms over on your chest. The thumb is on the front of the ear.
- Inhale through your nose as you squat down. Hold your breath here.
- Exhale as you stand up.
Things to remember – remove your jewellery, stand straight at the start of this practice, and place your tongue on the roof of the mouth. This last tip is great for boosting energy flow by “closing the circuit.”
You can do this a few times a day! Do it for 40 days and see how you feel! To experience the benefits, this exercise needs to be done once a day.
