Raising the New Children

Indigo. Crystal. Rainbow. These are some of the labels you may have heard, for the new children. There are of course overlaps, as some of you reading this are likely to be Indigo yourself. Indigos came as early as the 1960s, though primarily from the 1970s through 1990s.

Many people have written about these “new children” – Meg Blackburn Losey’s Children of Now, The Indigo Crystal Adventure by Celia Fenn, and The Indigo Children and other books about these kids by Lee Carroll, for example. Indigo, rainbow, and crystal children were named for the colour of their aura, each bringing their gifts and talents with new waves of consciousness.

Another proponent for the new children is NDE researcher, writer, and speaker, PMH Atwater. In her presentation We are the Children of the 5th World, she shares her views on the different generations. The table below summarizes these generations. Bear in mind that overlaps exist.

According to PMH Atwater, the new kids are intelligent, even if they don’t test well. She shares that in addition to a rise in test score points, with 1/3 of the kids scoring in the 150 to 160 range. That’s genius level. Interestingly, autistic kids test in that same range on the Raven test, which measures “fluid intelligence” – what you can learn versus the Wechsler test, which measures “crystallized intelligence” – what you have learned.

What is intelligence? We are most familiar with IQ (mental intelligence) and EQ (emotional intelligence). PMH Atwater agrees with consciousness and transformation coach Soleira Green that intelligence is expanded conscious awareness. Soleira Green also sees other forms of intelligence including SQ (Spiritual Intelligence Wisdom), WQ (Wholistic Intelligence), and QQ (Quantum Intelligence). SQ is connecting with our Higher Self. WQ is connecting with others and with potential, an innate telepathy. QQ is connecting with Allness, a hyperspeed bandwidth and super creativity. PMH Atwater writes in her book A Manual For Developing Humans that many kids born since 1982 can access SQ, WQ, and QQ. These kids are intelligent in ways we aren’t equipped or even know to test.

Attributes of the New Children

PMH Atwater shares the following as the positive characteristics of these new children. They are:

  • natural healers
  • entrepreneurs
  • irreverent, and have their own unique beliefs, some which may be seen as quirky
  • have a deep knowing and even know their own past lives
  • are volunteer-minded and have a sense of social responsibility
  • see gender as fluid

Looking around, it’s easy to see this showing up, with many environmental clean-up tools and initiatives coming from our younger ranks. We have our Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, Miranda Wang who invented a method to break down shredded plastic wastes, or Jake Andraka who back in 2013 at age 15 found a promising early detection test for pancreatic cancer. Not only do they feel they’ve inherited a bum deal, they see and feel the urgency of reversing the damages the previous generations have done to the environment.

In her presentation, PMH Atwater continues with the challenges for these kids. They can be impulsive, impatient, over-confident, and highly-sensitive to drugs, processed foods, toxic electromagnetic energies that can lead to poor nutrient assimilation. They may also feel entitled, have underlying anger, and have no concept of authority or boundary. Their greatest fear, silence.

Ways to Support and Raise the New Children

Adaptive learning, rather than what most schools offer, works better for the new children. They have an ability for abstract thinking at a young age and can mix up and shake up ideas, innovative ideas for healing and for responsible business. PMH Atwater believes dual language learning is beneficial in our global village of a world as well as a way to open up the brain.

Other suggestions include:

  • listen to them, believe in their world
  • teach them to trust their intuition and heart
  • go for natural remedies, including homeopathy, before going for pharmaceuticals
  • eat as clean as possible
  • help them feel safe and cared for
  • aim for 50 minutes of silence, twice a day (build up to it)
  • get them outside to play (this also helps to balance their time on electronics)

She gives more tips in her book – no screen time before age two, then limited exposure, teach them calligraphy (since cursive writing is hardly taught anymore), have music playing, and have them learn to play an instrument, for example.

For the Parents & Other Adults

Each generation challenges the previous ones to re-examine their beliefs, habits, routines, biases, and conditioning. This is not always easy. The new children are also much more sensitive to deception and manipulation and will call you out on it. We are in the midst of lies surfacing and it may take another couple of years for people to wake up to agendas at play today.

Today, many families are two-income households, further raising stress levels and a lack of downtime. It’s important for parents to have solid self-care practices to ensure they are not burned out or too tired and hence irritable to spend time with their kids.

Reading these tips, you may wonder how is it different than for pre-1982 kids? While the personal computer was already invented by then, Time called 1982 “The Year of the Computer.” To PMH Atwater, 1982 opened the floodgates and changed everything. So while many of these tips can be useful for raising kids in the 1970s, for example, they are not urgently necessary.
