On Healing & Learning from Injury

In this interview we speak with Valerie Marin, Integrative Nutrition Health Coach and the Asia Pacific Manager of Nutripuncture®, about her recent elbow injury. How did she approach her bone trauma? What did she do to support conventional treatment? What else was going on with this injury? We thank Valerie for being candid with her vulnerabilities.

Q

Tell us about your accident and injury.

A

It was one of those stupid accidents. Early December we were decorating our Christmas tree when I slipped on a piece of fabric that was on the floor. I ended up protecting my fall with my palm and a straight arm and I ended up dislocating my elbow.

Q

Ouch. What was the doctor’s prognosis?

A

After the fall I went to the ER, and I was hoping that I only had a dislocated elbow without any fracture. Unfortunately the X-ray showed there was a fracture on the radius bone head. The doctor set a half cast after reducing the dislocation and gave me two weeks to come back and check if the fracture was healing.

Two weeks later and after a lot of pain and discomfort, I went back. The X-ray was not clear and the doctor decided to do an MRI to have a better picture of what was happening. The MRI was not very conclusive either and the doctor decided to operate to see what could be done. He was either going to screw together the fractured bones or do a radial head replacement with an implant. After opening up, they found that the bones were not irrigated anymore with blood vessels and they had to go for the implant solution

Q

What healing plan did you create?

A

The first thing I did when I fell was to get my Nutripuncture kit and take the Bone Trauma sequence. It is a very powerful protocol that helps in case the bone structure is disturbed. It helps the body integrate the information of the trauma at the cellular level. If the information is not integrated, it could create some issues later on.

I needed a lot of rest and to calm myself down. Having the cast was very unpleasant – the tightness and swelling of the cast. I had a lot of pain from the bruises on my arm and simply putting my arm on a pillow was excruciating shooting pain. I couldn’t sleep at night so I was on edge and I started to feel very down.

I was using a lot of Arnica homeopathic pills to help with the bruising. I was also using some arnica oil to massage the bruised area (after the surgery). I was taking some supplements – Activa Circulation for blood circulation and also Activa Joint because it contains a very bioavailable turmeric compound that is good for joint inflammation and cartilage repair.

Q

Can you tell us a bit about how Nutripuncture works?

A

Nutripuncture works by restoring information at the cellular level. Our body interacts with the environment constantly and goes through hundreds of information exchanges in a day. This information normally gets integrated at the cellular level. However, information that is very stressful to the organism can create a disturbance which can then induce psychosomatic issues.

It was discovered that micro-minerals combined in specific sequences can be used to restore cellular communication. The micronutrients are minerals such as zinc, calcium, magnesium, and copper in micro-doses, that are used for the informational property of the mineral itself. The body can recognize and integrate the information because of it being the same frequencies.  It is a bit like your body is a computer. Sometimes there is a virus or a bug and the computer doesn’t work properly until you run an antivirus.

Q

What was the most challenging and the most surprising thing about your healing and this journey?

A

Taking health and freedom of movement for granted was the first thing that hit me. We don’t think about the importance of moving/ using our elbow. Suddenly I was not able to get dressed, shower, or carry things around, and even a little bit of moving was painful. It was a complete loss of freedom. I was very dependent on others, which is very unusual for me. I had to learn to let go and accept help and accept things the way they were.

It was a big lesson in humility. It was also very deep and moving on the emotional level. My husband and children were so patient with me. They wouldn’t let me do anything and they took such great care of me, as did our helper. It was so touching to see how devoted she was and non-judgmental.

Q

It’s said that when elbows, knees, ankles, collarbones, and wrists are injured there is a deeper message about moving forward. What do you see as the message of your injury?

A

For me it was a lesson to let go and stop carrying everything at arm’s length. A friend of mine told me that ater carrying everything at arms’ length for so long, my elbow ended up giving in.

In Nutripuncture we say that the elbows are the expression of the body. It was maybe a time when I was not in harmony with myself and needed to reset.

Q

What is the biggest lesson and change from this experience?

Valerie Marin & Children Singapore
Valerie with her two children, having a great time

A

Well this accident definitely brought a different light on things and life in general. Suddenly many things that would have stressed me out or made me angry now seem futile. I now am more indulgent and patient with other people and myself. I definitely learned that health capital is the only wealth we cannot go without.

Patience is something that I often come short of, but this period of my life has really pushed me to face myself. I have given into acceptance and patience. Rehabilitation is a slow process. Some days are good and others are harder. I sometimes progress and it is a victory and other days I regress, and I have to accept and keep positive.

On a deeper level I also realize that for the longest time I was complaining to my kids about how much I was doing for them and that they would realize it when I get sick and not able to do them. And suddenly bang… it happened. I wonder if I did bring this upon myself.

It was a big lesson learned. Today I am still recovering and it will take a few months before I can get back the full capacity of my arm. I believe that an experience is positive when we learn from it, and I certainly did.
