Make the first thing you put in your body count. Start the day with something alkaline. Instead of coffee, reach for an alkaline drink.
The human body has a normal pH level between 7.35 and 7.45, and when the pH drops below 7, the environment becomes acidic. Acidic environments are related to disease, inflammation, and even excess weight, as stored fat can assist in absorbing acid, protecting vital organs from excess acidity.
Eating alkaline foods, such as most fruits and vegetables, helps keep the body more alkaline. Start the day with alkaline boosters to get the body on track.
Here are some examples of an alkaline drink:
Coconuts are naturally anti-bacterial and anti-viral and are extremely alkaline. It is high in naturally-occurring electrolytes including potassium which makes this a highly energizing and rehydrating drink. Coconut water is also a source of B-vitamins and other micronutrients.
Drink fresh coconut water or make a blended coconut smoothie with your favourite fruits and veggies.
Break open the cap and drink the coconut water, which is the closest thing to our own plasma.
To make a shake at home, scoop out the coconut flesh and add coconut water along with one cup of ice. Blend and take it with you to the office. Add a handful of berries or a banana with a splash of cinnamon to add variety.
Stock your fridge with fresh coconuts, available at almost all grocery stores in Singapore. Juicing companies at food courts often provide fresh coconut as well.
Like other citrus, although acidic before consumption, grapefruit turns alkaline once in the stomach. According to the Medical Medium, fruits and juices are best taken on an empty stomach.
Drink the juice of one grapefruit first thing in the morning, and wait half an hour before consuming other foods. Grapefruits are a great source of Vitamin C, a water soluble vitamin important for cellular repair.
Pure Alkaline Water
Water can be alkaline or acidic. Ensure you are drinking alkaline water, looking for a pH of over 7.5. If unsure, add a lemon or cucumber or a splash of baking soda to alkalize it.
Sip throughout the day. Remember however that lemons are acidic in the mouth, so if taking a lot of lemon water, be sure to protect teeth enamel through regular brushing and oil pulling.
An easy to get alkaline water is Volvic, which clocks in at 7.07 or Acqua Panna, which is even more alkaline at 8.2.
Warm Water with Lemon and Honey
Does your day usually start with an acidic latte? Try skipping Starbucks for a week and see how you feel. A great coffee or tea substitute is organic lemon with raw honey, taken warm.
Honey is the only food which never decays. Lemon is a natural alkalizer. Take your Honey Lemon Water warm (not hot), to retain the properties of the raw honey. Choose raw honey which has been harvested without exposure to high temperatures, which can kill the anti-bacterial functions of honey. Taken on an empty stomach, it is a fantastic way to cleanse the body after a night of fasting, creating an alkaline environment.
Juice with Celery
Celery may not be on the top of your mind for a juice first thing in the morning. It is exactly what Anthony William, the Medical Medium, recommends.
Consuming celery is the most powerful way to alkalize the gut. That’s in part because celery (which is technically an herb, not a vegetable) is high in bioactive sodium. These are varieties of sodium and other trace minerals (more than 60 of them) that are present in celery and work symbiotically and systematically with each other and with celery’s regular sodium to raise your body’s pH and rid toxic acids from every crevice of your body, including your gut. This process is ideal to cleanse and repair intestinal linings.
Not only is celery high in vitamin A, it is also dense in potassium, magnesium, iron, and calcium.
Make a freshly squeezed juice and add a stalk of celery for good measure. If vegetables are not your thing, experiment. Try starting with 80% fruit and 20% vegetables, working to 50/50.
