Get to Know Your Thyroid and Get the Low Down on How to Restore Health

Thyroid imbalance is a common problem. Most commonly it is an under- rather than an over-active thyroid. In this article we look at the thyroid from three perspectives – Medical Medium, Chakra Medicine, and Nutripuncture.

Thyroid 101

Located in the throat, the thyroid gland is a butterfly-shaped gland and the largest organ in the endocrine or hormone-secreting system in the body. The thyroid produces several hormones such as thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). The active hormone T3 is converted from T4 and is the one whose level usually drops with thyroid imbalance.

Medical Medium

According to the Medical Medium Anthony William, the “true cause of thyroid disease, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, Grave’s disease, and almost all other thyroid conditions and symptoms is the Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV).”1 These are some of what he calls “mystery illness.”

Many experts in mainstream medicine believe that thyroid disease is an autoimmune condition. For Anthony William, rather than an autoimmune condition, thyroid imbalance is difficult to heal due to the lack of information about the varieties of EBV.  Today’s anti-fruit health advice is also detrimental to people’s health. He is vocal about raising awareness around the little-known EBV to get people on the healing path, through the correct foods, foods that heal the body of the virus.

Some of the top foods Anthony William recommends:

  • Cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, kale, brussels sprouts) contain phytochemical compounds that “literally push the virus out of the thyroid and destroy it”1
  • Atlantic sea vegetables (dulse and kelp) have high iodine content which acts as an antiseptic that works against EBV
  • Bananas
  • Cucumbers are great for the adrenals and kidneys
  • Garlic is well-known for its anti-viral properties
  • Celery
  • Barley Grass Juice extract powder pulls out mercury and heavy metals – these feed viruses.

Bananas help restore neurotransmitters and support healing from neurological problems, which are among the symptoms related to thyroid problems. Neurotoxins from viruses like EBV can creep into your body and cause symptoms like brain fog, memory loss, fatigue, restless legs syndrome, insomnia, tremors, tingles and numbness, headaches, tinnitus, anxiety, depression, and many more. This fruit is an anti-inflammatory, anti-EBV food that can greatly help you in healing from and preventing thyroid conditions and symptoms. Bananas are also good for hypoglycemia because they balance blood sugar and protect adrenals. Additionally, they knock out streptococcus, which unknown to medical science and research is the bacteria responsible for SIBO, from the intestinal tract. Streptococcus is a cofactor for Epstein-Barr Virus.

Here are some ways to add these recommended foods to your diet

① Sprinkle some Atlantic dulse on your salad

② Try a variety of cruciferous vegetables – broccoli, kale, brussel sprouts, broccoli raab, arugula, and cabbage – either raw or lightly steamed. Many people enjoy making kale smoothies.

③ Best time to eat a banana? When they are lightly speckled with brown. Anthony William reminds us that natural sugar from fruits is different from processed sugar and fruit is one of the biggest healers. Freeze a few for snacks or to make natural vegan ice cream with. Always eat fruit on an empty stomach.

④ Celery juice is one of the most highly recommended foods from the Medical Medium (after the superfood wild blueberry). If celery juice isn’t your cup of tea, juice it with apple, cucumber, or pineapple.

⑤ Try the Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie from Medical Medium by combining 2 bananas, 2 cups of wild blueberries, 1 cup of cilantro, 1 cup of orange juice, 1 tsp of Barley Grass juice powder, 1 tsp of Hawaiian Spirulina, and a handful of Atlantic Dulse.

According to Anthony William and many others, backed by science, much more than the genes are inherited. For him, it is the “Unforgiving Four” – radiation, heavy metals, viruses, and DDT.

“Chronic illness is not about genes; it’s about what your forebears were exposed to that got passed along to your parents, and later, to you. When you understand that the problem is a foreign presence such as a pathogen or toxin, it changes your perspective, because it means you can get rid of it and be free.”2

thyroid speaking your truth

Chakra Medicine

The thyroid is part of the throat chakra, which is about authentic expression, creativity, and communication.

If you experience any of the following, a throat chakra imbalance may exist-

  • Thyroid issues (hyper- or hypo- thyroid)
  • Fear of (public) speaking
  • Difficulty expressing or speaking your truth
  • Shame around speaking
  • Inner ear infections
  • (Chronic) sore throat
  • Laryngitis
  • TMJ
  • Teeth grinding
  • Addictions that involve over-use of the mouth such as smoking or overeating

An imbalance, a deficiency or excess, of the throat chakra can be harmonized in many ways, including crystal therapy, therapeutic yoga, art therapy, meditation, and colour therapy. With blue being associated with the throat chakra, working with this colour can be beneficial. Blue crystals include Blue Lace Agate, Blue Topaz, Lapis Lazuli, Aquamarine, and Blue Sapphire.

We can also observe where we may not be speaking our truth or where we are suppressing or hiding our creativity.  How many people defer to other people or swallow their words, rather than speaking up because of a fear of rejection and ridicule?

Any way that we can use our voice creatively, truthfully, and in an inspired way supports a healthy throat chakra. Chanting, mantra meditation, singing, and humming are wonderful ways to explore your expression, even if it’s just in the shower for now.

Nutripuncture

Nutripuncture works with 33 vital currents, 14 primary and 19 secondary, with five unique to each gender. Vital currents are described as “biophotons, electromagnetic waves”, “non-molecular information that enables various bodily systems to communicate in real time.”3

Thyroid is one of the secondary meridians in the Kidney Bladder meridian family, which regulates the transmission of genetic information and potential. From the Nutripuncture perspective, the Thyroid vital current regulates time and supports a person’s alignment with the timing of life stages. The Thyroid is our biological clock of rhythms and time.

This gland, animated by its meridian line, appears as of the seventeenth day of intrauterine life and governs the development of the child’s nervous system throughout pregnancy. Any Thyroid deficiency of the mother during this period will affect the child’s cerebral balance. Throughout life, this meridian controls the basal metabolism.

Our circadian cycle is regulated by natural forces and our exposure to sunlight. With light pollution, our body has become out of sync. Our ability to remain in the present moment, supported by the Thyroid meridian line, can also be compromised by shock, travel, and other challenges.

This temporary disturbance can be restored with an association of nutris (micro-nutrients that optimize cellular communication). As the Thyroid meridian is part of the Kidney-Bladder family which is associated with the season of Winter, nourishing and activating these meridians during Winter is beneficial.

It is advisable to see a Nutripuncture practitioner for a consultation to understand where the imbalance lies, thereby formulating a strategy toward health and well-being.
