Flower Essences & Homeopathy for Travel

Did you know that flower essences and homeopathy can help with travel, from motion sickness to jet lag?

With the Easter weekend coming up, many families have travel plans. What to pack is important and before I learned about flower essences and homeopathic remedies, I tried all kinds of things for travelling well. Remember those knitted acupressure wrist bands? I always had crackers, ginger, and chewing gum. I’d have a drink of ginger ale. And sleep, whenever I felt motion sickness coming on.

Now I have Jin Shin Jyutsu, flower essences, homeopathy, and essential oils for travelling. Also, my go-to for flights are my noise-cancelling earphones.

Taking Flower Essences and Homeopathic Remedies

With flower essences, it’s usually suggested to take a combo of six or the most, seven. However, I recently read a suggestion that you can take many more, if taking them separately. Flower essences hold the essence of the flowers and contain no physical parts, just like homeopathic remedies though they are prepared differently.

Did you know we can easily make flower essences ourselves? Using the solar method, we place the flowers in a bowl of water in the sun to allow their vibrational energy be absorbed into the liquid. Water holds frequencies. Alcohol is traditionally used to preserve the mother tincture. Other options include glycerin and apple cider vinegar, the latter I tried not too long ago. It’s got a very strong taste and I prefer alcohol as the preservative. These other options are great for those who cannot take alcohol.

Homeopathic remedies are made using dilution and succussion. After the substance is diluted in alcohol or water, it is shaken or succussed. By repeating this process, we end up with diluted solutions, again with none of the original matter in physical form.

Flower essences can be taken directly in the mouth, put into a glass of water for drinking, made into a mist or spray, or mixed into cream for topical application.

Like flower essences, homeopathic remedies are chosen based on how a person is feeling. the most common dilution is 30c and while we can pick a few for acute conditions, such as indigestion or food poisoning, it is best to work with a homeopath.

For travelling, I carry a selection of remedies in 30c. You can also purchase travel kits for the most common ailments and conditions. I like the brand Helios, which offers a 36 homeopathy remedy travel kit. It comes with a helpful booklet.

Flower Essences & Homeopathy for Motion Sickness

Bach Flower Rescue Remedy

Rescue Remedy is a great flower essence to have on hand. This is a blend of the following flower essences – Rock Rose (Helianthemum nummularium), Clematis (Clematis vitalba), Impatiens (Impatiens glandulifera), Cherry Plum (Prunus cerasifera), and Star of Bethlehem (Ornithogalum umbellatum).

  • Rock Rose helps with panic attack and extreme anxiety.
  • Clematis helps with light-headedness and mental fuzziness.
  • Impatiens helps with irritability and frustration.
  • Cherry Plum helps with fear of losing control.
  • Star of Bethlehem helps with shock and trauma.

When someone feels ungrounded or needs help but is unsure what’s off balance, Rescue Remedy is helpful and appropriate.

Flower Essence Travel Blends

The Bach Flower Therapy offers a Travel Sickness Remedy Formula. Included in this six-flower blend is scleranthus, indicated for ungroundedness and vertigo. This flower essence can help when a person feels pulled in different directions. From the Bach Centre – “Some people who suffer mood swings and motion sickness turn out to be suffering from Scleranthus indecision. But neither symptom by itself is a Scleranthus indication – the emotional state is always key.”

Australian Bush Flowers also has a blend for travelling. Its Travel Essence which comes in various applications, including drops, oral spray, roll-on, and cream. The Travel Essence consists of Banksia Robur, Bottlebrush, Bush Fuchsia, Bush Iris, Crowea, Fringed Violet, Macrocarpa, Mulla Mulla, Paw Paw, Red Lily, She Oak, Silver Princess, Sundew, and Tall Mulla Mulla.

  • Banksia Robur – feeling enthusiastic about life when facing a temporary loss of drive, disheartened, and lack of enthusiasm
  • Bottlebrush – ability to cope when feeling overwhelmed by life changes
  • Bush Fuchsia – feeling clarity and in touch, rather than feeling switched off and ignoring gut feelings
  • Bush Iris – clearing root chakra blocks and awakening of spirituality, from physical excess and avarice

other Flower Essences to Consider

White Chestnut, Walnut, Elm, Cherry Plum, and Olive are also options.

White Chestnut helps the mind to relax.

Walnut helps us to adapt and supports the body in different environments and climates. Elm is often suggested for travelling through timezones.

If there are fears, consider adding Mimulus for unknown fears and for known fears.

Cherry Plum can help when there is vomiting.

Olive is for fatigue from travelling.

There are many kinds of flower essences, aside from Bach and Australian Bush. Before you travel, you may want to try a brand to see which one resonates with your energy the most. These come in glass bottles of a couple of sizes that pack inside the carry-on allowance of a quart-bag if you are flying. You can start them ahead of time. I like to start the Rescue Remedy a few days before travelling.

Homeopathy For Motion Sickness & Jet Lag

Cocculus indicus and Ipecac can help with motion sickness. Start with Cocculus and repeat every few hours if motion sickness continues. Switch to Ipecac if nausea continues. Cocculus helps with nausea and dizziness, especially when there is a loss of sleep. Cocculus, one of the most popular remedies for travel, is also helpful for jet lag.

Other remedies to consider include Borax for up and down motion, Nux vomica for nausea, faintness, sensitivity to movement, and fatigue manifesting as digestive disturbances, Aconite for fear and restlessness that are coupled with feeling heated, Tabacum when it feels better with a breeze, and Arsenicum album, which is also great for food poisoning.

For jet lag, aside from Cocculus indicus, try Arnica montana. This one is great to have on hand as it has so many everyday applications. While great for physical trauma, Arnica supports the body as its internal clock gets scrambled from travelling.

Another one that helps with exhaustion is Gelsemium. Fatigue from long flights can be so full on that it can take someone out for days.
